FAQ

What‘s the difference between a Project and a Classroom?

A Project is for a group working with a deadline to accomplish a certain objective. A Project page will provide you with tools like an Outline, Checklist, File Sharing etc to achieve your objective. A Classroom is an ongoing space for students and instructors to interact by starting conversations, uploading handouts and readings, creating assignments and sharing event dates.

Does someone need to be my Friend on the site for them to join my Classroom or Project?

Yes and no. You can only invite Friends to your Project or Classroom, but any user can request to join your Class or Project. If you allow them access this doesn’t mean you’re automatically friends. Some people prefer not to have class/group members as friends since this allows them access to their My Profile page and updates.

Do my friends or group members get access to everything I post on the site?

No. Everything you post on the site can be controlled by the User. You can decide who has access to your posts; everyone (public), Friends only, Group/Class members only or Private (just you).

What’s the difference between posting files or events from the My Profile drop-down versus in a Project or Class?

Posting files/events in a Project/Class will allow members of the group to see what you’ve posted. If you add an event or file via the My Profile page it will show up in your widgets and be for your own information.

Can I leave a Project/Classroom whenever I want?

Yes. There’s a link to ‘Leave Project’ on the main page.

What’s a Project Coordinator?

Every Project should have at least one person who’s committed to making sure people are posting to your page, working on Tasks and scheduling meetings. This is the Project Coordinator. It defaults to whoever creates the Project, but it can be transferred at any time. The Project Coordinator has certain privileges such as the ability to remove members and to control the Project Outline template.

Can I leave a group if I’m the Coordinator?

If you’re the Coordinator of a Project you need to transfer ownership to another group member before you can leave. This can be done by clicking ‘Edit Project’. If you’re the only group member and you want to leave then you can delete your project by clicking on ‘Edit Project’ then ‘Delete’.

Is there a limit to the size of files I can upload?

At the moment there is no limit to a user’s storage space. No individual file can be more than 20MB’s though. We may start capping a user’s storage space if our site’s disk space get’s maxed out.

Is there a limit to the number of Projects or Classes I can create or be a member of?

There are no limits to the number of Projects or Classrooms a user can create or join.

How do I receive email updates when group members post new content?

Users can control how, where and if they receive email updates on their Projects and/or Classrooms. Click on ‘Notices’ from the top toolbar then Project or Classroom Notifications. If you check a box you will be sent emails to that address whenever someone in your group posts new content to that Project/Classroom.

How can I control who sees my posts?

Everything you post in a Project/Classroom or for your personal records has read/write permissions on it. This means that you can control who will see it and who gets to make comments. You can set posts to private (for your eyes only), public (the world sees it!), friends or members of a specific Class/Project.

How do I delete an erroneous profile?

Sometimes users want to delete multiple profiles created in error. At the moment the only way to delete a profile is by contacting us and we will do this for you. To delete an old profile email support@Enterthegroup.com.

Can I remove members from my group?

Only if you’re the Project Coordinator or Class Organizer. If so, then click on Members on the left side of your group’s page and then delete the member.

What do I do with a project page after the project is completed?

If you’ve completed a Project and no longer need to access the page then you have two options. You can delete the page, in which case you will lose those files and notes or you can simply leave the project as it is. There’s no limit to the number of Projects or Classrooms you can create so leaving them open is Ok.

Can I request to join groups?

Absolutely. If your friends or colleagues have created a group and haven’t invited you yet then you can click on ‘Request to Join’ from the Project or Classroom page.

Questions about Enter the Group

What does the name Enter the Group mean?

The name Enter the Group is a response to people’s fears and apprehensions about doing group work. It reflects the idea that we should just put all those negative thoughts behind us and just join a group.

Why was Enter the Group created?

Enter the Group was originally created out of a desire to make student group projects easier. Its purpose is to provide groups with the tools they need to get their work done properly and make their lives easier. The site was later expanded to include virtual classrooms so that these types of groups could use the site’s tools for communication and collaboration as well.

Will Enter the Group ever start charging a fee?

At some point we will need to generate revenue to maintain the site so we may introduce a ‘freemium’ model where paid subscribers could access the site without advertising free and with more storage space. We may also introduce more advertising onto the site and into the email notifications users receive.

Is there a way I can help Enter the Group grow?
